Dental Emergencies Requiring Immediate Care

Severe Toothache

Persistent, intense pain that doesn't respond to over-the-counter medication may indicate infection or abscess requiring immediate attention.

Knocked-Out Tooth

A completely dislodged tooth is a critical emergency. If addressed within 30-60 minutes, there's potential for successful reimplantation.

Broken or Fractured Tooth

Significant breaks exposing the inner tooth structure can cause severe pain and increase infection risk.

Lost Filling or Crown

Exposes sensitive tooth structure and can lead to further damage or infection if not promptly addressed.

Dental Abscess

A serious infection characterized by swelling, pus, fever, and severe pain requiring urgent treatment to prevent spread.

Soft Tissue Injury

Cuts, lacerations, or punctures to lips, gums, cheeks, or tongue that result in significant bleeding.

What to Do Before You Arrive

Taking the right steps immediately can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes.

  • Handle tooth by crown only, never touch the root
  • Gently rinse with water if dirty (don't scrub)
  • Try to reinsert into socket if possible
  • If reinsertion isn't possible, keep tooth in milk or saliva
  • Contact us immediately - time is critical

Severe Toothache

  • Rinse mouth with warm salt water
  • Use dental floss to remove any trapped food
  • Apply cold compress to outside of cheek
  • Take over-the-counter pain reliever as directed
  • Never apply aspirin directly to gums

Broken Tooth

  • Save any broken pieces
